Where to Eat in Kingston on Your Cheat Day: Round 3

By Kate Farrell

For the past two years, we’ve shown you where to find the most indulgent gastronomical feats Kingston has to offer, and you may have thought we hit our peak. But if we’ve learned anything this year? It’s that any day can be Cheat Day with the right mindset. And we’re serving up a fresh list of goodies so you can make any day a day to treat yourself. Whether you’re having a bad day, a great week, or it’s Monday and you thought why not treat yourself for putting on pants this morning — we got the spots you have to try.

Harper’s Burger Bar

93 Princess Street

Grandma’s Treat Spiked Shake

We had to start off with this Kingston foodie haven. Harper’s is the go-to place in the 613 for all your favourite decadent burger combinations (ten patty options alone!) with amazing toppings like balsamic candied onions, Monterey jack cheese, and even grilled cheese. You’re going to need a drink to go with your decadent meal, why not live your best life and indulge in one of their handspun shakes? If you’re really feeling it, go for one of their famous spiked shakes like Grandma’s Treat — a shake made with Maker’s Mark bourbon, caramel vanilla ice cream, and candied bacon!

Wok In

30 Montreal Street

#18 Pad Thai

Once you wok in you won’t want to wok out (sorry, had to). This hole in the wall joint may be the last place you would expect to grab a delicious meal, but that’s the fun of surprises. The owners make all the meals fresh to order with fresh ingredients — and the best part is that it’s all super affordable with huge portions. Get a whopping portion of Pad Thai with chicken, shrimp, bean sprouts, peanuts and green onion to warm your heart and soul.

Copper Branch

268 Princess Street

Spicy Buffalo Wings

Do you only imagine lettuce and vegetables when you think of plant-based food? Copper Branch is ready to change all of that. From power bowls to chocolate zucchini brownies, they’ll have the most carnivorous eater transformed. Our pick? The vegan spicy buffalo wings with hot sauce, sriracha coleslaw, and your choice of aioli or hot sauce.

The Pilot House

265 King Street East

Smoked Cod Fish and Chips

If you come here and don’t get the fish and chips we’re not saying we can’t be friends, but it may be implied. This is a must-visit establishment in Kingston for any self-declared foodie. With a classic, cozy pub atmosphere and huge portions, you have to try the smoked cod fish and chips here, your stomach will thank you.

KAME Sushi & Bento

156 Division Street

Sushi Burrito

Kame is one of those hidden gems in Kingston that, once you find it, you’ll never look back. Don’t be fooled by the discrete exterior, this Japanese Izakaya restaurant serves up fresh, generous rolls of sushi, amazing bento boxes, poke bowls, sushi pizzas, and more. Try their Sushi Burrito for a truly standout experience!

Pasta Shelf

1749 Bath Road

Rigatoni

Sometimes you have to reach for the top shelf items in life, and if those items happen to be Italian? Even better. This family-owned trattoria has been a local favourite in the West End for their huge variety of Italian food. Their food is handmade in-house every single day using homemade recipes, so you know you’re getting a delicious meal every time. Though we’d happily dive headfirst into any of their dishes any day, we love their signature Rigatoni!

Riverhead Brewing Company

631 Fortune Crescent

Salted Caramel filled Pretzel with Whipped Cream

This locally owned independent craft brewery has been gaining a huge following since it’s opening a year ago. We love them not only for their beers they brew on site but for their slick yet inviting atmosphere of their space. Enjoy casual, delicious eats to pair with your brew like pulled pork sandwiches, Cinco de Mayo Chips, and three cheese gourmet paninis. Just make sure you leave room for the main event, their salted caramel filled pretzel with whipped cream and a chocolate drizzle. Don’t worry, we’re drooling too.

Pan Chancho Bakery & Cafe

44 Princess Street

Malted Milk Chocolate Fudge Cake

You may head here for their legendary cafe menu for their sweet dishes like dutch baby skillet baked pancakes, or maybe their savoury El Chanco brunch platter — one thing you can’t miss, their bakery. Every single thing in the bakery is made from scratch daily, so you know you’re getting the best treat yourself dish possible! The cafe opens at 7 am, dessert for breakfast anyone?

Casa Domenico

35 Brock Street

Limone Pasta

Are you ready to get fancy? Lead by Executive Chef David Faroldi, leave it to him and his team to make a mouthwatering meal for you with the freshest ingredients every single time. The best part about Casa is that because everything is so delicious, you really can’t go wrong with a single thing on the menu, from their Melanze Parmigiano, to a delicious pasta dish like the Penne alla Vodka. For our heat day we’re diving into their famous Limone pasta with pancetta, roasted garlic, basil, preserved lemon and a lemon cream sauce!
