Kingston, Ontario has a wealth of local wedding venues and vendors that give you plenty of options to personalize your special day. Conveniently located along the 401 corridor (and with its own newly renovated airport), the destination is easily accessible for family and friends from anywhere. With all of this–and not to mention the wide variety of accommodation options–Kingston stacks up as a fantastic wedding destination.
This past summer, Tourism Kingston held a competition with a prize of an all-expenses-paid New Years’ Eve wedding at the Ramada by Wyndham Kingston Hotel and Conference Centre. The prize is valued at over $15k and includes:
- A reception including appetizers, starter, main course, dessert, and late-night bites for up to 80 guests!
- A room for the wedding party to get ready in
- A suite across the hall for the happy couple with complimentary sparkling wine and strawberries
- A professional photographer to capture every moment of the special day
- Party favours for ringing in the new year
- Décor to stage the Cartier Ballroom at the Ramada by Wyndham Kingston Hotel and Conference Centre
To enter, we asked couples to share their love story and why they felt they deserved the win in less than 200 words. We received many great submissions, so it was hard to narrow it down to the finalists.
After careful review, there was one entry that really stood out, and we’re excited to announce the winners of our competition—Kyle Melrose-Stenman and Munya Khalid!
Kyle and Munya started dating in their senior year of high school and have been inseparable ever since. They attended different high schools and were introduced by friends who thought they’d get along. After high school, Munya attended St. Lawrence College in Kingston, and Kyle enrolled in the Ontario Police College. Since graduating, they’ve been able to travel and volunteer around the world, and say that it’s given them perspective on their relationship. They both expressed feeling very fortunate to be marrying their best friend.
New Years’ Eve for Kyle and Munya is always spent celebrating with family and friends. “Being able to do that while celebrating our love would be extra special,” says Munya. Both of them grew up in Kingston and credit the city for shaping them as individuals and as a couple. It’s always been a dream of theirs to have their wedding in their hometown, but being as young as they are, they were concerned about the costs involved.
After almost 10 years together, we felt that Kyle and Munya truly deserved this prize. So please join us in congratulating these high school sweethearts and local Kingstonians—congratulations lovebirds! Munya and Kyle get to keep with tradition as they ring in 2020 with friends and family and celebrate their love in style at their very own New Years’ Eve Wedding.
Stay tuned for more about their wedding planning journey!
